Academy Award winner Nicole Kidman made her film debut when she was just 16 years old, in the Australian film Bush Christmas. International recognition came six years later, when she starred in 1989's Dead Calm with Sam Neill. The following year came her American debut, opposite Tom Cruise, in the film Days of Thunder.

In 1996, Kidman won her first Golden Globe, for 1995's To Die For. Her second came in 2002, for her turn in the 2001 Baz Luhrmann musical Moulin Rouge. Her performance as actress and courtesan Satine in the film also earned her her first Academy Award nomination. The next year saw a flood of awards for Kidman's performance in the film The Hours. The movie won the 2003 Academy Award for Best Picture, while Kidman won the Academy Award for Best Actress (the first Australian to do so), plus a BAFTA and a Golden Globe. Kidman also received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame that same year. Since then, she has continued to star in a diverse array of films, including Cold Mountain, Happy Feet, Nine, Rabbit Hole, and The Railway Man.

Kidman received her first Emmy nomination in 2012 for her role as Martha Gellhorn in the TV movie Hemingway & Gellhorn. Kidman starred in another television biopic in 2014, playing Grace Kelly in Grace of Monaco. She will next be seen on the small screen in an adaptation of the hit novel Big Little Lies, set to premiere on HBO in 2016.
